Winner of AIGA 50 Books | 50 Covers 2025/26
Very happy to share that Just Another Trouble Bubble has been selected as a winner of AIGA 50 Books | 50 Covers 2025/26.
For the cover, digital pointillism creates an almost chaotic field that becomes the ground for the title. Beneath a thin outer sheet, the largely hidden cover reveals the locations of surveillance cameras in some of the world’s most highly surveilled cities. A restrained use of silver foil adds a subtle layer of precision to the design.
The jury highlighted these choices as part of what made the book stand out.
It’s an honour to see this project recognised by AIGA and included among this year’s winning books.

Contributing to SYNC: Collaboration and Recognition
SYNC (2022)
SYNC is an award-winning artist’s book by Dutch visual artist and analogue photographer Maria Dabrowski, created in collaboration with author and cultural philosopher Joris van Merwijk. The project emerged from a shared fascination with time, attention, and the ways in which technology shapes our everyday experience of the world.
Bringing together analogue photography and cultural-philosophical essays, SYNC explores the value of slowing down, presence, and conscious observation. Dabrowski’s images invite moments of stillness, while Van Merwijk’s essays examine the impact of constant digital stimulation, the pressures of a performance-driven society, and our evolving relationship with time and leisure. Rather than illustrating one another, image and text exist in dialogue, each enriching and expanding the meaning of the other.
Since its publication in 2022, SYNC has received international recognition, including a Gold Lamp at the Dutch Creativity Awards and the Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3). Published in a single limited edition of 300 copies, the artist’s book is now almost sold out. Next year, SYNC will celebrate its fifth anniversary.
More than an artist’s book, SYNC is an invitation to pause, to look again, and to rediscover a more natural rhythm in an increasingly accelerated world.

Created between 2017 and 2022, SYNC can be seen as a timely and forward-looking exploration of themes that would only later become central to public debate: digital overload, screen fatigue, and the need to reconnect with a more conscious rhythm of living.
With the edition now nearly sold out, the final copies of the artist’s book are still available through the website below.

March 28 > Art book Just Another Trouble Bubble celebrates its first anniversary!
Unseen bookmarket, Lecturis-stand, pakhuis Santos 28-03.
We live in a time when civilized eyes have witnessed so much evil that they have ultimately become blind to it.
We move from one crisis to another, and even before the ashes of the previous one have settled, a new war is already breaking out. This constant accumulation of calamities leaves us numb, deaf to the silent decay of what was once sacred: privacy, property rights, and freedom of speech. The ground is slowly slipping from beneath our feet, and we barely notice.
Before you know it, the new truth is no longer freedom, but security, where surveillance and centralization are used as justifications for a new form of control.
That is why this remains a cry that must continue to be heard. And that is why I am celebrating that Just Another Trouble Bubble is exactly one year old. This art book; a raw mix of blurred street scenes, biting illustrations, and philosophical reflections, won Gold at the International Design Awards 2025 because it refuses to look away.
So come visit the Lecturis stand on Friday, March 28, 2026, between 14:00 and 15:00 during the Unseen Book Market at Pakhuis Santos in Rotterdam. I would love to sign a copy for you and talk about how that bubble may already be bursting.
See you there, in person.
